About Us

The Yellow Cab Company was founded in Baltimore in 1909. It is one of the oldest Yellow Cab service in the US and Baltimore’s oldest and largest taxicab company, serving approximately 5 million people annually with a fleet of over 600 vehicles. Our taxi service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year in Baltimore City (Yellow, Checker and Sun Cabs) and Baltimore County (Jimmy’s Cab). We are constantly working to ensure that our drivers have the finest tools available in order to provide the best and most punctual service possible.

Over the years, we have been a pioneer in many areas, being the first to hire African American drivers in the 1950’s , the first to hire female drivers in the 1950’s, and the first to implement a number of radio, dispatch and other communications-oriented technologies. We have been a committed partner to the City of Baltimore in its growth and development, and are very proud to serve “Charm City.” Yellow has a strong service ethic and has a number of contracts that have endured for decades, including an 80-year contract with Penn Station and 25-year contract with Johns Hopkins University.

We also offer service to the disabled community and the elderly in partnership with city paratransit services, Medicaid and other entities in the healthcare field.

Yellow continues to strive for community improvement and empowerment. Through out the years, we have incorporated: hybrid cars to help reduce our carbon foot print, propane cars providing cheaper eco friendly fuel. Other initiatives such as 1,000 smiles and Youth Works help build the strength of our community by investing in the youth’s future and quality of life.

Yellow Cab is owned by Transdev, a leader in providing transportation services – including bus, rail, paratransit, shuttle, sedan and taxi – in 150 locations in the US and Canada. Transdev is the largest operator of taxicab services in Baltimore, Denver, Pittsburgh and Kansas City, operating approximately 2,400 taxis and providing some 20 million passenger trips per year via taxi.
